1 in 5, that's around 50 million, Americans have some form of neurological damage. There can be many causes of a neurological disorder but these include infections, injury to the spine or nerves, environment or genetics. Damage affects many things including mood, memory, sight, moving, speaking, and even breathing! A neurological disorder is any disorder of the body’s nervous system and there are both common and rare neurological disorders. Some common neurological disorders are:

  • Alzheimer's or Dementia - the loss of ability to think due to the impairment of memory
  • Migraine – This severe and painful headache can also cause loss of vision and vomiting for days
  • Parkinson's – Tremors and slowing of voluntary movements Stroke - cerebrovascular disease
  • Cerebral Palsy - developmental disorder that occurs before birth, during birth, or immediately after birth

More rare neurological disorders are:

  • Agnosia –usually from brain damage and affects how your brain is able to identify and perceive objects around you.
  • Batten Disease – where fats and proteins abnormally build up in the body's tissues and the disease begins with vision problems or seizures

Psychological testing can be done online, at home or in a clinic.

A lot of the treatment for these disorders is just that, a treatment, not a cure. Things like diet and lifestyle changes, physiotherapy, neurorehabilitation, pain management, medication, or operations performed by neurosurgeons. Neuropsychiatry involves work with mental disorders caused by diseases of the nervous system. Other mental disorders are not caused by neurological problems but rather genetic predisposition to illnesses like depression or schizophrenia and even learning disabilities.

These psychological problems can be biological or can be caused by life events or environmental factors such as upbringing. These problems are usually diagnosed by different means such as interviews, health tests or questionnaires and then treated more on a psychological bases as well as with medications that that work more at altering the brain’s chemistry or the mood.

Psychological testing was first noted in China in 2000 BC where the civil service had an exam and in 202BC the Han Dynasty had a written exam for the mind. Following the Army Alpha and Army Beta tests for soldiers in World War I, mental testing became popular in the US. Today mental testing is widely used by professionals for people of all ages and creed and clinical psychologists work with individuals, children, families, couples, or small groups.

The Neurological and Psychological Test at Home:-

Psychological testing can be done online, at home or in a clinic. Diagnosis in clinical psychology usually follows the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM), a handbook first published by the American Psychiatric Association in 1952. Psychologists explore concepts such as intelligence, phenomenology, motivation, perception, cognition, attention, emotion, brain functioning, personality, behavior and interpersonal relationships. The difference between neurological and mental disorders has been a large debate for quite some time. Scientists and health professionals study the cause of a condition and then on the other hand try to understand the brain and the mind.

If you are concerned about someone having a mental issue or do not feel right yourself, taking a test and seeking professional help will help you. The stigma attached to mental disorders is slowly breaking down and they are being realized as real illnesses and conditions affecting the mind, which is just as important as affecting the body.
