Allergens cause an allergic reaction to some people when they eat or inhale something that doesn’t agree with them. During the summer months, pollen can be one of the main causes of allergies. Many people start sneezing, coughing and suffer from watery eyes, not very pleasant at all. Allergens are also present in the home and should be tested for. Your mattress could be one of the reasons you come out in a rash, have red welts on your body or itch all over. Mattresses are perfect places for dust mites. No matter how clean you try to keep your mattress, it could have up to ten million of these pesky mites living inside it.

Other types of allergens

Plants can also be the cause of allergic reactions such as hives. You could possibly be allergic to the fur on your pet, many people are allergic to cats. Wasp or bee stings can cause a serious allergic reaction to some people. Even penicillin can be dangerous. A penicillin allergy occurs when your immune system reacts to penicillin antibiotics.

Find out what you’re allergic to by using a home test kit. It’s only a finger prick blood sample that’s needed so you can see just what’s causing that irritating itch or unsightly rash. Symptoms of allergies often include:- -

  • Swollen lips
  • Sniffing
  • Hay fever
  •  Conjunctivitis
  • Urticaria

Eating or inhaling something that you are allergic to could also cause broncho-constriction, edema, coma, hypotension or in some cases, death. Always make sure your home is free from mold too as this can create an allergic reaction.  If you love sun bathing, your skin may also have a reaction to direct sunlight, so get that high factor on, pronto. Something as normal as aspirin that contains chemicals can also be the result of an allergy or even makeup. Watch out for any irritation on your skin when using cosmetics or perfumes.

Take great care when using cleaning products, shampoos, conditioners and detergents. Most of these items contain chemicals that can be a danger to you. Wear rubber gloves when cleaning your home or avoid any product that could trigger a reaction that can be very unpleasant. Don’t worry too much, any type of allergen can be tested using a home test kit.

Allergens

Allergens are particles which can cause asthma and allergic reactions in many people. These particles are carried through the air and then settle onto surfaces like floors, furniture and benches. They are measured in microns or micrometers and are all different sizes. The larger particles like dust mite and cockroach debris and pollen settle much more quickly than animal type allergens or mold and mildew. Most people will try to stay indoors if they have allergies because of the seasons and pollen but inside your home also needs to have allergen control. Looking after the quality of air in your home can reduce symptoms or asthma and allergies.
